MatchMaker Settings Tab
Here I will try to explain most of the settings found in the settings tab that may bother you. (With images ofcourse).
So first thing how to get the settings tab, its fairly simple, simply left click the settings button on top right corner, it has a gear image on it.

In the settings tab on the left is a list of sub menus that you can choose to tweak the corresponding settings.
The 'GENERAL' and 'POPULOUS' settings are only the ones that will bother new players.

GENERAL TAB
Above image shows the general tab settings, here you can change matchmaker's language, startup behavior, etc. For convenience turn on 'AUTO CONNECT AT STARTUP AND LOGIN' and 'SAVE PASSWORD'. This will save you a few clicks.
Save Chat Logs: Saves the matchmaker chats in a .txt file and stores it locally in your PC.
Game Settings (Bottom/Top): Switches the location of info box between top and bottom.

POPULOUS TAB (& Sub Menus)
Left clicking on populous will give settings related to gameplay on the right, also there is a small arrow just left of populous, clicking on which reveals several sub menus.
Set Populous Directory: Set here the location of populous on your PC.
Software/Hardware: 2 different game modes which graphically look different and contribute 0 difference in game mechanics. If you have windows 7 or better version hardware mode will crash.
Show Enemies in Minimap: If ticked this will show your enemies as dots in the minimap ingame and it will also force your tribe to be visible in the minimap aswell, If kept unticked you will see no enemy tribes in the minimap.
Hide Chat While Playing: Hides the chat when game starts.
Send Screenshots Every minute: Takes a screenshot every minute and uploads to popre.net main page, people claim it can also help in detecting cheaters, etc.
Spectators: Set here the maximum number of people that can spectate you while you are ingame. If set to any number other than '0' anyone can right clik on your nick while you are in game setup, and they will have an option to spectate you, they will be able to see all your actions while the actual game starts but can't interfere.

High Landscape detail: Turn this on for better looking terrain.
Show footsteps: Shows footsteps trail of the units moving around.
High framerate: Increases the overall game framerate making it more smoother, you can experiment and see what suits you best.
Gamma: Self Explanatory.

CONTROL
Fix Mouse: Just keep this turned on, it may or may not eliminate mouse flickering problem, in most cases it will.
Autocast: If you try to cast a spell which is out of range of shamans reach, she will automatically move towards that location in order to cast the spell (If turned on).
Scrolling Tooltips: I don't know what this does.(I guess it's got something to do with the notification messages)
Flip Rotation: If turned on the pressing left arrow key will rotate the world towards right and pressing right arrow key will rotate the world towards left.
Stay Selected: Units will stay selected even after you give them commands(8 commands maximum). Right clicking the empty space in the world will deselect them.

CAPTURE
Enable Twitch Streaming: Enables automatic streaming of each game to twitch.tv.(Requires your stream key and Twitch Username)(Trust Pop:Re or not, your decision).
Enable recording: Enables local recording and saving as video file locally in your PC.
